Kids want to go swimming. Your job as their mom – get in the damn pool!

Last summer, my twin girls were about to turn 3, and it was their first time swimming in a big people pool with myself, and their “Papa” Josh. And almost 3 years post partum with twins – admittedly, I was still carrying around my “baby weight”.

The girls got in their new Finding Dory swimming suits and strapped on their floaties, and I dug through my dresser to find my old swimming suit. (I was TERRIFIED of swimming suit shopping, and at this point in the game, I had no choice but to rely on my old suit.)

My girls, and my boyfriend waited outside of my bedroom for me to come out so that we could get to swimming, but behind that door, I had another problem. MY SWIMMING SUIT DID NOT FIT THE WAY THAT IT USED TO.

I yelled to my boyfriend, “HOUSTON! We have a problem!”

He gently knocked on the door, and as I opened it shyly, halfway hiding behind the door, I explained the situation. My little girls were behind him hopping up and down excited to see mamas swimming suit. Their little eyes were on me, and what I did next will shape the rest of their lives….

The moral of the story?

As a mom, it’s so easy to get hung up on looking perfect, and having our shit together.  It’s just not possible all the time! So take it easy on you! I want to be the messy mom next to my kids splashing in the pool. I want to be remembered as the mom who didn’t sit on the sidelines.
